Charleston County hosted an online meeting on December 10 to allow an opportunity for questions about the Main Road Segment C project to be addressed. View the video of the meeting.
Main Road Corridor Segment C begins at the intersection of Bohicket Road and Maybank Highway and extends to Betsy Kerrison Parkway. Several options will be examined for the segment, including widening River Road, widening Bohicket Road and constructing a new road across the island.

Project Purpose
The primary purpose of the project is to:
- Reduce congestion.
- Increase capacity on Main Road/Bohicket Road from Maybank Highway to Betsy Kerrison Parkway.
The secondary purpose of the project is to:
- Provide opportunities for bicyclists and pedestrians to safely travel throughout the project area.
Project Look Ahead
After collecting and analyzing public input and discussions with regulatory agencies, Charleston County eliminated several alternatives from consideration and selected a Recommended Preferred Alternative. The Recommended Preferred Alternative was presented at a public meeting in May 2024 and will be further refined based on public input and further analysis.
